Comcast Phone Customers Now Get Unlimited Calls to Nearly Half of the World

Company Adds Five New Countries to Most Popular Calling Plan For No Additional Cost; Mexico, India, China, Singapore, and South Korea Now Included

PHILADELPHIA–Comcast today announced it added five new countries to its most popular home phone plan, Xfinity Voice Unlimited, a change that comes at no additional cost and has the potential to save users hundreds of dollars each year. These changes allow customers to place unlimited calls from home or on the go to mobile and landline phones in Mexico, India, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, and South Korea, in addition to the six regions outside the United States already included.

The updated plan is available today in Comcast’s Central Division, which includes major markets like Atlanta, Chicago, Detroit, Miami, and Nashville. Next week, it will be offered in the company’s Northeast Division, which includes 14 states from Maine to Virginia and the District of Columbia, and it will be available to remaining Comcast customers by the end of August.

With Xfinity Voice Unlimited, customers can now place unlimited calls from home or on the go to mobile and landline phones in Mexico, India, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, and South Korea, in addition to the six regions outside the United States already included.

“Staying in touch with family and friends is important, regardless of geography. But sometimes even the shortest phone conversations can get expensive,” said Patti Loyack, Vice President of Communications, Comcast Cable. “We hope the changes we’re making to Xfinity Voice Unlimited helps more people stay connected for less money.”

Today, Americans spend billions of dollars on cell phone charges related to international calling and millions more on worldwide calling cards. Data from the Federal Communications Commission shows that many of these calls go to India, Mexico, and Canada.

“We applaud Comcast’s decision to add India, China, Hong Kong, and Singapore to the Xfinity Voice Unlimited home phone plan. Although the Asian-American community is the fastest growing racial group in the United States, many of us still have family and friends in our countries of origin,” said Carl Hum, Vice President of Policy and Programs, Asian Americans Advancing Justice. “Comcast’s expanded plan will help our community keep in touch and connected without spending on calling cards or incurring wireless charges.”

Comcast has more than 11 million phone customers, and nearly all of its residential phone customers subscribe to the Xfinity Voice Unlimited plan. In addition to the five new countries being added today, the plan already allows unlimited calling to Canada, Puerto Rico, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, U.S. Virgin Islands, and American Samoa, totaling nearly half of the world’s population. Xfinity Voice Unlimited also includes features like caller ID across multiple devices, three-way calling, and call waiting.

Unlimited international calling is just one way Xfinity Voice saves people money. With the Xfinity Connect app, people can use up to four virtual phone numbers to make and receive calls and texts for free from a smartphone, tablet, or device connected to Wi-Fi. This feature helps save money on wireless bills and on international charges when traveling abroad. Customers can also check email, read or listen to home voicemail, and access contacts through the app.

The terms of service for Xfinity Voice Unlimited are available here.

Comcast To Offer 2 Gigabit Internet Service Across Twin Cities

Gigabit Pro Will Be Available To More Than 600,000 Homes by End of 2015
New 250 Mbps Internet Tier Will Also Launch Across Entire Service Area

ST. PAUL, MN – May 21, 2015 – Comcast today announced it will roll out its new residential multi-gigabit broadband service to more than 600,000 homes across the Twin Cities later this year. Gigabit Pro is a symmetrical, 2 Gigabit-per-second service that will be delivered via a fiber-to-the-home solution and offered to customers throughout Comcast’s footprint in the Minneapolis/St. Paul metro area.

In addition, Comcast will be launching Extreme 250, a new 250 Mbps Internet speed tier, available to Twin Cities area customers later this year.

Gigabit Pro will be available to homes within close proximity of Comcast’s fiber network and will require installation of professional-grade equipment. The company has fiber at the core of its network and, for the past decade, it has invested billions of dollars to extend that fiber deeper into neighborhoods and closer to homes. To date, Comcast has built out more than 145,000 route miles of fiber across its nationwide service area, including the Twin Cities, to serve residential communities with a fiber to the home solution.

“The Twin Cities is one of the most sophisticated technology markets in the country, and we’re excited about the opportunity to bring an entirely new level of broadband access to the region,” said Jeff Freyer, Vice President, Comcast – Twin Cities Region. “Whether it’s Gigabit Pro, Extreme 250, or one of our existing internet options, Comcast continues to look for opportunities to increase speeds, providing a wide range of options that meet customer needs.”

In addition, Comcast is currently testing DOCSIS 3.1, a scalable, national, next generation multi-gigabit technology solution with plans to begin launching in early 2016. When fully deployed, it will mean almost every customer in Comcast’s national footprint will be able to receive gigabit speeds over the existing network (a combination of both fiber and coax). For more information, please see http://corporate.comcast.com/comcast-voices/imagine-where-2-gigabit-speeds-will-take-you.

Comcast has made significant investments in the Twin Cities over the years, doubling the capacity of its network every 18 months. Additionally, the company has been delivering multi-gig (up to 10 Gbps) Ethernet service to businesses in the Twin Cities since 2013.

Comcast NBCUniversal Commits To 10,000 Military Hires Over Three Years

Company Announces New Head of Military and Veterans Initiatives Role
and Enhancements to Military Benefits Policies

PHILADELPHIA, PA – May 14, 2015 – In celebration of Armed Forces Week, Comcast NBCUniversal announced today that the company is committed to hiring 10,000 reservists, veterans and their spouses or domestic partners between 2015 and 2017. The new employees will work in a variety of positions across all levels of the organization, including network engineering, technology, operations, theme parks and resorts, programming, customer service, marketing, human resources, and other careers.

From January 2012 through March 2015, Comcast NBCUniversal has already hired approximately 4,200 veterans, far outpacing the company’s goal to hire 2,000 veterans by 2015 as part of its ongoing partnership with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation’s Hiring Our Heroes initiative. It is estimated that between 2012 and 2017, approximately 1 million active-duty service members will have separated from service, and Comcast NBCUniversal is committed to helping them find jobs as they enter the civilian workforce.

“These brave men and women have given so much to our country, and I am delighted that we can support them and their families,” said William Strahan, Executive Vice President of Human Resources at Comcast Cable. “When our military employees embark on training and deployment orders to protect our country, Comcast NBCUniversal wants them to do so with a level of confidence and comfort that the important matters in life are being managed. We are so proud and grateful for their service and look forward to welcoming them to our team.”

In conjunction with this hiring news, Comcast NBCUniversal also announced the creation of a new role, called the Vice President of Military and Veterans Initiatives. The role will work collaboratively across Comcast NBCUniversal to provide strategic leadership to all aspects of programs and outreach engaging the military and veteran community. The role will report to David Watson, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for Comcast Cable, and to John Wallace, President of Operations and Technical Services at NBCUniversal.

As military employees depart their civilian life for training or deployment, there are often concerns connected to the impending leave process, transition to or from the work environment, and family. Comcast NBCUniversal is pleased to announce new enhancements to the company’s military leave policies to help ease this transition for our military employees and their families. Some of the enhancements include:

  • Granting up to 15 days of annual military leave with full pay to support annual training obligations of drilling reservists and National Guard members,
  • Increasing military leave supplemental pay to three years for employees on active duty,
  • Providing the option of staying on Comcast NBCUniversal health and welfare plans during deployment, and
  • Providing certain financial and job transfer assistance to an employee whose spouse or domestic partner is being called, reassigned, or transferred to active military duty in a different geographic area.

Significant progress has been made in employing veterans and their spouses or domestic partners; however, there is still work to do. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, as of the end of 2014, 5.3 percent of veterans remain unemployed. The unemployment rate among post-9/11 veterans remains higher than that of other veterans and the country overall ― veterans who served on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces at any time since September 2001, a group referred to as Gulf War-era II veterans, is at 7.2 percent.

Comcast NBCUniversal is proud to support our active duty military service members, reservists, veterans, and their families. The company shares the values of leadership, service, teamwork and ethics, and is honored to partner with those who have served our nation. Comcast NBCUniversal fosters a culture that supports veterans and reservists within its ranks. Veterans are invited to join employee resource groups where there is a community among veterans. The Comcast NBCUniversal VetNet employee resource groups serve as a base of support for members in several ways, including a mentoring program and events focused on growing the professional and personal development of veterans and their allies. Combined, the Comcast NBCUniversal VetNet groups have more than 5,000 members and are quickly growing. Additionally, MSNBC’s Taking the Hill is the only veterans-oriented show on a major news network and the only news show on national television anchored by a combat veteran.
